Queenstown parkrun – Event number 128 – 22nd May 2021

Queenstown parkrun
Event number 128 - Tutu Edition
22nd May 2021

This week 49 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 12 were first timers and 9 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 5 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand and from Australia!!

A chilly 3C temperature greeted our parkrunners at the Queenstown Gardens rotunda this week.  Being the 22nd of May it was a "tutu" parkrun and lots of colourful waist adornments were seen on our parkrunners.  Today was also Event Director Jamie Seymour's birthday and was celebrated first with a tutu tail walk and then a delicious cinnamon scroll at Yonder. Happy Birthday Jamie and thanks for your support of Queenstown parkrun.

We had some milestones today with local junior parkrunner Liam Major earning his junior 10 parkrun achievement.  Liam earned the milestone in style with a great tutu today which is believed to have helped him smash his PB by almost 2 minutes.(It could have also been the promise of a post-parkrun donut that pushed young Liam to his new PB).  Visiting parkrunner from Australia, Kylie Smith, quietly earned her 100th parkrun today and unfortunately we did not know of her milestone.  Congrats Kylie!

For the second week in a row, local legend Seamus Costello went "Full Seamus" in his trademark red singlet to come across the line first with a time of 18:54.  Seamus is now tied for 3rd on the men's and 4th overall tally of first finishes at Queenstown parkrun.

Nancy Jiang was second overall and first female today with a time of 19:11.  This was her second first finish in the last three weeks. She now is 2nd on the female first finishes list and 5th overall.

Rounding out the top three men today was local runners Luke Hammington and Tim Williams with times of 19:15 and 20:25 respectively.  Visiting parkrunner from Australia, Kylie Smith was the second female across the line at 22:32 with Queenstown parkrun Run Director Wendy Banks in third at 24:38.

On 5th June we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary of Queenstown parkrun by having a junior parkrunner takeover!  What kind of mayhem will ensue when the kids are in charge?

The event was made possible by 11 volunteers:
