Event number 125
1st May 2021
This week 72 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 11 were first timers and 13 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 6 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand and also Australia!!!
Today was the first day of our alternate course "C" that will be in use for Winter whilst Queenstown Lakes District Council performs extensive maintenance along our start/finish strait and Hotops Rise(the big hill at the beginning). We now are starting and finishing inside of Queenstown Gardens near the band rotunda and doing an "out and back" course that covers 90% of the original course in both directions. The new course brings the opportunity for many of the parkrunners to see each other in both directions and get even more views of our surrounding peaks and Lake Wakatipu.
Visiting parkrunner from Australia, Oliver Palmer made quick work of the new course today coming across the line at 17:05. Oliver was not only the first person to ever cross the line on this new course configuration, but also the first Aussie to get a first finish since early 2020! Local runner Jack McKay was second across the line in a very respectable 18:18 with fellow local Demetri Pappas rounding out the top three with a new PB of 18:54.
Local parkrunner Brooke Thomas was the first female across the line with a new PB time of 20:05 today. The 5km course must have gone by in the blink of an eye for Brooke who recently set the Fastest Known Time(FKT) of the 3000km Te Araroa Trail in 57 days whilst raising money for Heart Kids NZ. Another local parkrunner Sara Metzger came across second female today earning herself a new PB at 21:20. Fresh off her second place female finish at the Routeburn Classic, local pram parkrunning legend Dahna Hunter closed out the top three ladies in a time of 22:24
