Event number 120
27th March 2021
This week there was a total of 65 runners, joggers and walkers completing the Queenstown parkrun course. Due to upcoming infrastructure works we had a slight change in the course. Our usual big hill (Hotops Rise) at the start of the course was removed much to the delight of some! Thanks to the amazing team of volunteers that ensured nobody got lost!
The finish line was rather exciting this week, our local runner Dahna was battling out the sprint finish with the youngsters! Dahna’s words ‘ran out of gas’ to keep up with the first finisher 13 year old Santiago Monasterio from Christchurch. It was Santiago’s first ever parkrun, he didn’t know about parkrun until the evening before and Santiago’s father said they had issues registering on the website. So, if the Monasterio family read this please get in touch so we can let Santiago take credit for the top spot!
Our junior runners Finn Wallis (20:38) and Joseph Murray (20:40) took the second and third male finishing spots. Dahna Hunter was the first female finisher and second overall (20:38), followed by Saskia Van Der Geest (23:24) and Michelle Moyes (24:53).
We welcomed 10 parkrunners first time to our Queenstown course and 5 first time parkrunners. Well done to the 6 parkrunners that got their personal best on the day, Declan Murray, Adele Mecasova, Bill Malone, Liz Human, Sam Major and Emma Collins. Also big congratulations to Elizabeth Trevathan for reaching her 50th parkrun milestone, 40 of her parkruns have been at Queenstown!
