Queenstown parkrun – Event number 117 – 27th February 2021

Queenstown parkrun
Event number 117
27th February 2021

This week 65 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 13 were first timers and 7 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 7 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand.

Running conditions were good this week with little to no wind and slightly muggy conditions. It was our monthly pacer day and we were very thankful to Nancy Jiang for pacing 20 minutes, Isobel Barry for pacing 25 minutes, and Dave Pearson for pacing 30 minutes.

We had two special milestones this week for two local parkrunners.  Una Cox completed her 50th parkrun with 38 of those being here at Queenstown.  11 of her parkruns were at Ormeau parkrun in Belfast and 1 was at Dunedin.  Dave Pearson completed a double milestone today completing his 50th parkrun and 25th volunteer effort on the same day by being volunteer pacer!  That's an incredible run to volunteer ratio from Dave! All of his volunteer efforts and 32 of his runs have been at Queenstown! Thanks so much for your support of Queenstown parkrun!

Another shout out to visiting North Island parkrunners Naomi Boynton and Stu McGarva for coming to Queenstown parkrun on their wedding weekend! Best wishes for your big day and a happy married parkrun life together!

Fresh off of his 2nd place podium finish at the Shotover Moonlight Mountain 30km last weekend, Jack McKay decided to "stretch his legs" into a new PB of 17:21 as our first finisher today.  Jack now also has the most first finishes at Queenstown parkrun with 12.  Earning a PB of his own, local parkrunner Paul Nicholas shaved an incredible 56 seconds of his previous time coming across second at 18:44. Local mountain running legend, Sarah Douglas was third overall and the first female across with a time of 18:52.

Ralph Miller was the third male across in his first visit to Queenstown parkrun with a time of 19:38.  Our 20 minute pace runner, Nancy Jiang, still had some pep in her step after last week's 3rd place result at the Old Ghost Road Ultra.  She came across the line at 19:40.  Visiting parkrunner from Auckland, Angela Hawkes rounded out the top three females with a time of 22:07.

Unfortunately due to the New Zealand alert level change we are unable to have Queenstown parkrun on 6th March.  Fingers crossed that we will get back to level 1 for the following weekend.  Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest updates.
