Event number 107 - Christmas Day Edition
25th December 2020
This week 99 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 23 were first timers and 13 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 7 different clubs took part. We had visitors from Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Rotorua, Dunedin, Invercargill, and all the way from Whangarei!
Today was our third annual Christmas Day parkrun and another wonderful time to celebrate with friends and family our shared love of running and community. 2020 has without a doubt been a difficult year for so many of our local community, but the spirit of our great town was out today as everyone came together to enjoy our fave weekly 5km event. We had cool and sunny conditions greet our parkrunners and a bit of a breeze as the middle of the pack was starting to come across the finish line. Cakes, biscuits, lollies, and treats were plentiful and brought from our amazing volunteers and parkrunners. Jamie and I(Chris) wish you all a Meri Kirihimete!
A big shout out to one of our most dedicated volunteers, Carmella Bury, who completed her 25th volunteer day at Queenstown parkrun today! Carmella timed it perfectly to get her v25 milestone on the 25th of December! Thanks so much for supporting Queenstown parkrun!
The holiday festivities were a fast contest today between two of our speediest locals. Ben Britton was triumphant today crossing first at 17:42 with Jack McKay following him in at 17:51. Ben's first place today takes him equal with Jack for the most first finishes at Queenstown parkrun with both parkrunners sitting on 10. First time local parkrunner Stef Heinrich rounded out the top three men today with a time of 20:26.
Visiting junior parkrunner from Auckland, Sophie Robb, had a speedy debut at Queenstown parkrun today coming across as the first female with a time of 20:45. Her sister Scarlett Robb followed her sister in with a time of 21:20. Local parkrunner Jayde Kruger was third across the line in a time of 23:55 earning herself a new PB for her efforts!
Tomorrow we have our regular Saturday parkrun which just so happens to be on Boxing Day! See you again tomorrow morning!
Please note that we will NOT be having a special New Year's Day parkrun but will be recommencing on Saturday the 2nd January. The closest parkruns having New Year's Day events are Invercargill, Balclutha, and Dunedin.
The event was made possible by 11 volunteers:
