Queenstown parkrun – Event number 100 – 24th October 2020

Queenstown parkrun
Event number 100
24th October 2020

This week 57 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 15 were first timers and 8 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 6 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand!

On 9th June 2018 we kicked off Queenstown parkrun and were excited to bring the world's fave, free, weekly, 5km event to town.  Little did we know how popular it would become and bring together both locals and tourists alike every week to enjoy not only walking and running in the beautiful Queenstown Gardens, but also to socialise and form many friendships.  To everyone who has walked, jogged, ran, or volunteered over the past 100 events, Jamie and Chris would like to thank you for your participation and we look forward to another 100 events!  We celebrated at Yonder cafe afterwards with an amazing 100 shaped cake made by volunteer, Wendy Banks!  Thanks Wendy!

Jack McKay came first across the line today with a time of 18:21.  He has now claimed more first finishes at Queenstown parkrun than anyone else with a total of 9!  Local runner Matt Rayner was second across the line with a time of 19:06 earning himself a new PB.  The red singlet legend, Seamus Costello, rounded out the top 3 with a time of 19:48.

Dahna Hunter can usually be seen burning rubber around Queenstown Gardens with her pram clocking impressive times.  Today she went buggy free and knocked almost two minutes off of her PB coming the first female with a time of 20:41!  Local runner Isobel Barry logged her 43rd parkrun for second at a time of 23:07. Sarah Jenkins was third across today at 24:11 earning herself a new PB for her efforts!

Upcoming events are the Halloween edition of 31st October, Christmas Day edition on 25th December, and Boxing Day edition on 26th December! Yep! That's two parkruns in two days' time for the holidays!!

Next week, be sure to come in your most spooky or funny active wear and beware of what might be waiting for your in Queenstown Gardens!! Lollies at the finish line for those who survive the haunted forest!!
