Event number 94
25th July 2020
This week 85 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 21 were first timers and 15 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland.
The predicted gloomy weather didn't show up in time for Queenstown parkrun this week and despite a strong breeze on the bay side leg of the course, it was another great day for our fave weekly 5km event. Thankfully temperatures were in the positive side today and it made for great running conditions. We also had a last minute inclusion of pacers today to help our parkrunners meet their time goals.
Visiting parkrunner from Invercargill, Kelvin Meade, returned to Queenstown parkrun for the first time in over a year to take out the first position today. Coincidentally, Kelvin tied his previous PB on our course with a time of 17:44 whereas he took the top spot today versus fourth last year. Campbell Jackson-Mee had another great run this week and finished in a speedy 18:16 and visiting parkrunner Paul Tench rounded out the top 3 with a time of 18:56.
Unfortunately our outright first female this week did not have a barcode so we cannot give her any credit for her great effort. Therefore, local runner Amanda Harvey logged a first finish today in a time of 21:57. Amber Stewart completed her fourth parkrun this week to come in as the second female across. She earned herself a new PB of 22:59 in the process. Rounding out the top three ladies was Saskia Van Der Geest who also clocked a PB with a time of 23:03.
On 5th September we will be having our Winter Pride themed parkrun event. Be sure to find your best rainbow active wear for a run to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity.
