Queenstown parkrun – Event number 93 – 18th July 2020

Queenstown parkrun
Event number 93 - Frozen -4C Edition
18th July 2020

This week 53 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 5 were first timers and 9 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 3 different clubs took part. We had visitors from across New Zealand and from the UK!

The cold winter came to a crescendo this weekend and provided what many of our local parkrunners claim to be the chilliest event we have ever had.  Temperatures were -4C at just before start time and whilst there was no icy patches on the course, the duck pond in Queenstown Gardens had frozen over.  Never fear, local legend Seamus Costello still took on the conditions wearing his trademark red singlet showing everyone how it's done.

Auckland based parkrunner Campbell Jackson-Mee made his return to Queenstown parkrun this week and took the top spot in a speedy time of 18:10.  Queenstown Athletic team member, Jude Deaker, smashed his previous PB to come across the line at 18:48. Jude carved a massive 46 seconds off his former record.  Close on Jude's heels and rounding out the top three and proving that running in a singlet in sub-zero temperatures does help in getting a PB was Seamus Costello at 18:49

Local parkrunner, Sophie Rolleston-Smith completed her second parkrun by taking out the top women's time with a new PB of 20:53. Sophie shaved almost 30 seconds off her effort from last week.  Valerie Grimba was closely trailing Sophie into the finish to complete her third parkrun and also earn herself a PB with a time of 20:57.  Another massive effort as Valerie knocked 1:42 off her previous PB.  Dahna Hunter was our third female across the line showing everyone how it's done whilst pushing a pram and also earning herself a PB with a time of 22:52.  Today's time sees Dahna continue a PB streak of three weeks and a total of five PBs in 2020.

On 5th September we will be having our Winter Pride themed parkrun event.  Be sure to find your best rainbow active wear for a run to celebrate inclusiveness and diversity.
