parkrun report – 1 January 2019

EVENT #63 - 1 JANUARY 2019

123 runners and walkers battled the heat at 9am this morning for our first New Years day parkrun... I'm not sure what the actual temperature was. .it definitely felt hotter than what was recorded and runners and walkers were melting crossing the finish line. .. even in that heat there was a number of PBs achieved...

2018 has been a great year for us and parkrun in general. . Every week we see new people enjoying parkrun and across New Zealand nine new parkruns started over the past 12 months. .. 27 in total. . that's 4 more than the whole of the USA! Not bad for little islands at the bottom of the world.. We also boast the southern most parkrun in the world, and we're  the first country to run/walk the 5kms this year..

parkrun has come to mean different things for different people. .. for me personally it introduced me to running in a friendly,  non threatening way,  with enough friendly competition to keep it interesting.  parkrun also introduced me to many inspiring people which led to me becoming a Facebook stalker on the various running group pages.... which then led to me taking part in various running events... actual and virtual.. with valued support from newfound it's all parkrun's fault!

I enjoy seeing everyone's progress, and hearing the excitement when someone has run/walked further or faster. . It's addictive! That's the bonus of being on the finish line.... being part of everyone else's parkrun experience... can't beat it for a Saturday morning buzz..

2018 was great.... and looking forward to doing it all again in 2019.. and meeting even more inspiring people #loveparkrun
