Kia ora everyone. I'm Robyn, a regular at Blenheim parkrun, here in Auckland as part of my quest to complete every NZ parkrun. (Oh, and to bag an O for my alphabet challenge.)
I'm glad I chose Owairaka. It's a lovely out-and-back course (with two legs), containing a variety of bridge crossings, wetland, parkland and urban terrain. And with very friendly people who pretended to understand my need to travel the country in search of parkruns-not-yet-run.
When I'm visiting a parkrun for the first time, I generally don't sleep well the night before. My brain prefers to spend those hours catastrophising: What if my alarm doesn't go off / I miss the bus / I can't find the start (which has happened). . . .? True to form, short of sleep but super-early, I turned up on a beautiful Auckland morning to join the 70-odd runners, walkers and volunteers at Owairaka Park.
We had an actual international visitor today, Graeme from Australia, along with Chris and Jamie, well-known Queenstown parkrun stalwarts, and myself from the Mainland. We also welcomed parkrunners from other Auckland and North Island events.
As ever, thanks to the wonderful volunteers who ensured that today's event happened. And congratulations to the two 'milestone' volunteers, Francis McCormick and Abby Zhang, who have earned their V25 tee shirts!
Thanks, too, to Helen who whipped out her special home baking on the finish line - what a treat! Coffee and chat at L'Oeuf afterwards completed an excellent morning of physical exercise and communal catch-ups, which is what parkrun is all about, isn't it?
And I have my O.
