Owairaka parkrun – Event #36 – 17 July, 2021

Off on a tangent again!

Once again I find myself writing a run report for a parkrun I didn’t attend. So I’ll try to stick to the facts and the stats! The reason I wasn’t at Owairaka on Saturday was because I was in Wanaka, which may well have had the best weather of all the parkruns in New Zealand. There was no wind, nor was there rain. Just sunny, scenic mountains, water and trees. No bull! And here’s a few photos from there to prove it. While it was event #36 for us, it was Wanaka’s 153rd, with 58 versus 46 participants. It was fun touring down south, but it’s great to be back and I’m looking forward to returning to the fold this parkrunday!

Here’s a link to the Wanaka run report which I wrote and the pics on Facebook if anyone’s interested.

Some notable notes from Event #36

At the faster end of the field we had repeat offenders receiving the frontrunner honours, with Krystyna Knight pushing two ahead of the next competition (in first placings) with her 7th victory. Paul White pocketed (not literally) the Number 1 token for the fourth time, and the highest overall age grading. Both of these runners made awesome achievements. Toward the other end of the field we welcomed visitors Cate and Jeff Alpe who hail from Puarenga parkrun in Rotorua. It seems like they enjoyed their visit despite the wild weather. Regular volunteer Francis was tailwalker for us and nailed a PB, along with 8 other people who may or may not have used the wind to help them?! It was great to see four newcomers to parkrun choosing Owairaka to begin their parkrun journey. Welcome to the parkrun whānau, David Dickson, Flora Hong, Lin Zhao and Michael Fisher. We hope this is the start of a wonderful thing for you, as it has been for so many of us.
