Event 274 – 8 August 2020

Today’s weather conditions were cold after some rainfall last night and there were some big puddles throughout the course, but that didn’t stop 74 parkrunners plus our volunteers to make this event happen. It was also my fourth time coming to this course, although I didn’t manage to get a PB for the third time in a row but it didn't stop me from visiting the course.

This is my first run report since the COVID-19 pandemic changed the world forever. We are grateful as New Zealanders that parkrun is able to resume from the beginning of July after maintaining discipline and strict guidelines. Hopefully the other 21 countries that parkrun is established are able to come back to normality once their infections are under control.

When parkrun NZ resumed on Saturday 4th July, I ran Whanganui Riverbank’s first ever parkrun event followed by Blenheim parkrun the week after to put my name forward to have at least 15 different events completed in NZ. Details can be found here.

Milestones:

We also had one milestone today. Congratulations to Natalie HARDY on completing her 50th parkrun. Next week we will have Dave CHANDLER who will be running for his 100th milestone, congratulations in advance. By looking at the latest results, some of us are closing the gap to achieve either their 50, 100 or 250th milestones by the end of this year!

Debuts and Tourists:

There were 6 first timers to the course, which includes Ruth TRASK who chose our course for her debut parkrun and we had some visitors outside of the Wellington region. We hope to see you again soon.

Personal Bests:

Four parkrunners today have got a new personal best today. Congratulations to Michael PEARCE, Kitty GRICE, Nisa PROMCHOT and Greg DOBSON.

Volunteers:

Without volunteers every week, this event would not have happened. The event was run by Bruce WILSON. The other 11 volunteers that helped out today are as follows: Carolyn BRETT, John GLYNN-BEGBIE, Arend LANSER, Adam LAWLOR, Lucy LAWLOR, Steve LOGAN, Sylvia MEAKIN, Alan ORANGE, Paula REARDON, Ross WELLS and myself (Dan JOE)

I am hoping to come back to this course next month. Until then, keep yourself safe, healthy and look after those around you. I am grateful that we are allowed to do events without any restrictions.

Many thanks,

Dan Joe
