Event 220 27 April 2019

100 runners and walkers braved the crisp autumn morning for Kapiti’s 220th parkrun. Conditions were fantastic. There was a slight chill in the air and despite overnight rain, the skies cleared in time for us all to enjoy our weekly Saturday morning exercise. It was great to see lots of children out on the course today, enjoying the last couple of days of their holiday before they head back to school. Thanks for making the effort to come along!!

We had 16 first timers join us today, some from other national and international parkruns but a large number of people running their very first parkrun. It’s always nice to have new participants, and we wish a warm Kapiti welcome to: Alana THORNE, Ben LOWE, Caleb LOWE, Claire DOWLING, Courtney MURPHY, David DOWNER, Deon Andre FERREIRA, Elizabeth Ann FERREIRA, Jake LOWE, Jamie LOWE, Jonathon TURNER, Lucy MADDEN, Nathan LOWE, Riley MURPHY, Sharee LOWE and William BOND. We hope you all had a good time and you’ll be back to join us again soon.

We were joined by a couple of people from Ruakaka today, and I spent the first part of my run reminiscing about the childhood holidays I spent up in that beautiful part of the country (many years ago). At least this made me forget about the pain in my legs for a couple of kilometres!! Perhaps I need to plan another holiday in Ruakaka and try the Whangarei parkrun course.

Congratulations to Ash HOUGHDaniel BULLOCKJohn GRANVILLENadine ROWAN-THOMSON, Sarah COURTNAGE, and Sophie LANGLEY who achieved PBs in todays run. There was one significant milestone today, with Fiona ROWAN-THOMSON completing her 50th parkrun. Congratulations on your achievement Fiona!! First across the line was Ash Hough in an impressive time of 18.53. The first female was Carolyn Marshall in 22.23.

I hope everyone enjoyed the 220th Kapiti parkrun. See you all next week.
