Kapiti Coast parkrun
Event number 154
27th January 2018
Hi, special agent Steve McDonald here checking in with my run report for the 27th January 2018. A humid, fine and very still ( too still ) morning, I knew something was about to break the serenity of this lovely morning but I had no idea what. 7:40 am runners and walkers from all walks of life emerging in the park. People from far and wide. There was Josie and daughter Dana from Rarotonga, runners from England and South Africa what could possibly bring them all here? I had to find out. 7:55 am Things starting to heat up now, and upwards of 100 people gathered moving towards the start line. waiting for the starters orders. Even Carrie-Anns dog Bailey was quiet! What could this mean? 8 am The hooter sounds and they’re off like startled rabbits. Soon enough the park was back to silence just timekeepers and other volunteers awaiting the return of the multitudes. I couldn’t work it out, everything seemed normal then I saw it. It was A CAKE. Yes, that's what was different about this day It was a birthday cake, and there was a sausage sizzle as well. Also, spot prizes of drink bottles and chocolates and Coffee. So that's what the fuss was about KAPITI PARKRUN 3RD BIRTHDAY. I knew I could now relax as I had busted the case wide open. The runners must have known something as before you knew it they were on there way back to get their share of the spoils. I think Tom Bland must have been very hungry as he was back under 18 minutes. Others were content taking things in their stride and at there own pace. Case solved I quietly slipped back into the shadows, until next time. Happy birthday Parkrun Kapiti it was a pleasure. special agent Steve McDonald signing out.
