Invercargill parkrun Event number 107 8th February 2020

2ndanniversary

Today was our 2nd Anniversary parkrun. And it was party day! The weather wasn't completely on our side today, with overnight rain and wind making the conditions cool. It also meant our picnic party was inside the Cheeky Llama Cafe, instead of outside.

This week 191 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 18 were first timers and 38 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 3 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 24 volunteers:

Liz HENRY • Ruth PRATTLEY • Regan PRATTLEY • Sarah BIGGERSTAFF • Micah CAMBRIDGE • Mel LEMM • Peter BIGGERSTAFF • Leon HARTNETT • Joanne FUKUDA • Aimee WITHINGTON • Brenda STRANG • Linda COMPTON • Craig SWENSSON • Tatsuya FUKUDA • Ally FUKUDA • Emme FUKUDA • Caitlyn MCDOWELL • Dave HART • Lucy HART • Gemma MERRILL • Tobias PRATTLEY • Fergus MERRILL • Thea MERRILL • Aodhan HARTNETT

We value our volunteers and ask that you do volunteer 5 times a year so we can spread the roles among all our parkrunners, and help keep parkrun going.

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Invercargill parkrun Results Page.

Billy Carter completed 100 parkruns today!

Billy is our second parkrunner to complete 100, but the first to complete 100 parkruns, having only started since Invercargill parkrun begun.

Congratulations Billy! Sorry I didn't mention it at the briefing, I had intended too!!

Aimee (who was First timers briefer and walking today):
parkrun summary 8.2.20
Note to self (Liz); don’t casually mention to Aimee that you want her to dress as a fairy as she will take it as a challenge and actually do it & convince a half a dozen other parkrunners to also dress as fairies.... aside from that the 2nd birthday of Invercargill parkrun was amazing as it always is, the rain managed to hold off and the wind wasn’t too annoying (shock horror). There was a good number of first timers @ the first-timers briefing this morning and they all seemed excited/nervous for parkrun. I was walking the Hartley fam and it was good to have a catchup with them about life. Really enjoyed the party after parkrun, thanks Liz and the team @ the cheeky llama for providing the food and the spot prize. Aimee

Leanne (who was marshal at the rotunda points):
Whoop whoop!!
Happy birthday to us, we are a big two years today.

On an overcast day the people came out not only to participate but also to socialise to new friends that may also include those who they have met since beginning their park run journey. Smiles were everywhere for most, and all were pleased to cross that line.

For some finish times mean everything - whilst for others, it was just great to have a purpose to get out of bed early and an extra bonus to eat birthday cake.

Until next week, next month or just another Saturday, look forward to seeing you once more as you run, skip, or walk past me while I’m wearing my volunteer vest.

Ruth (who was timekeeper and first aider at finish line):
What a great day to celebrate our 2nd birthday!! Many new faces, along with our seasoned regulars ensured a positive and excitable start for todays event! Of course we always like a dress up and today was no different. A group of parkrunners organized to dress as fairys and they did not disappoint.

Our resident fan of dress up, Regan, pictured below, ensured he added his signature style to the costume by cutting the sleeves off an old work shirt and making himself the president (and only member) of the parkrun Angels MC. Who knew fairys could be scary?!

Sarah (marshal and chief organiser at the Cheeky Llama Cafe this morning):
The party vibe was alive and well at the Cheeky Llama today for our second birthday! Turnout was massive! Thanks to everyone who came along. I'm not sure what they were more excited about - the fantastic selection of party food, the awesome spot prized or just the chance to chat with other fellow parkrunners, but it was a fantastic morning for all.

Thank you to everyone who came for our party at the Cheeky Llama it was great to have so many of you join us. Congratulations to the many raffle prize winners!

Thank you to Mee & Henry Law Limited our local sponsor for the prizes, decorations and food supplied for the celebrations today!

Thank you to Brendon Wallace, Kathy Jordon and Zealan from ICC who arranged a key for the gate between the Cricket Pavilion and the duck ponds today. It certainly enabled everyone to get to the start line easily! (It also helped the Ambulance get to us today, update: our beautiful parkrunner is ok, just underwent a check over and bit of a clean up!)
