Pacers 29th June Hagley’s 250th

It’s been a few years since we last had a pacer event so to hopefully guide some of you lovely people to a PB we have decided to do one as part of 250th celebrations.

We are so grateful to those who have volunteered so far to pace this weekend. We have a few gaps so do let us know if you’re happy to volunteer for any other slot, we just need to know your barcode number and the time you are willing to pace for (hagleyhelpers@parkrun.com).  As a guide this should be at least 2 minutes more than you are capable of running a parkrun in. You will get a volunteer credit in addition to participating in your favourite Saturday morning pastime.

We will pacing the following times:

20.00 Ross Mackay

22.30 Johnny Gibbons

25.00 Richard Knott

27.30 Colin Chin

30.00 Stephanie Rumble

32.30

35.00 Yvette Tucker

If you’re out there running, walking or run/walking and you would really like some support to complete the run in a particular time let us know. We will do our best to find a volunteer to pace that time too.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday for the 2-5-0!

Hagley parkrun # 249 – 22nd June 2019

We were all up before the sun this morning, on what was the shortest parkrun day, but what a beautiful sunrise it was. The colourful sky seemed to fit our ‘purple for parkrun’ theme perfectly! It was also great to see so many of our participants don purple including a number of Volunteer Club t-shirts.

278 people ran, jogged and walked the course, on what was a fairly crisp Christchurch morning. 26 of whom were first timers and a staggering 51 people recorded new Personal Bests. Congratulations!

Representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

One of our junior runners joined the Junior 10 Club and set himself a new PB, well done Finn! Jason Shaskey, Vaughan Morrison and Bartosz Morawiec all completed their 50th milestone today. It was great to see these milestones celebrated, we all especially enjoyed the pyrotechnics!

Today we recognised National Volunteer Week and all of the wonderful volunteers around New Zealand. Thank you to all those that volunteer, either within parkrun or other organisations in New Zealand, for the valuable contribution you make to our communities. We extend an extra big thank you to those 13 individuals who made today’s event possible:

Rebecca THOMS • Sinead IRELAND • Jeremy DUGGAN • Brian TYRO • Rachael SEXTON • Dave CANDY • Modecai NKHWAZI • Colin THOMS • Ross MACKAY • Rory CROSBIE • Mary-Clare DELAHUNTY • Richard ANNESS • Mark BOON

At Hagley parkrun an incredible total of 387 individuals have volunteered 2,321 times. Thank you all. For anyone who is interested in volunteering for the first time, please do not hesitate to be in touch. We will provide lots of detail about the role along with support and training.

We look forward to seeing you all for our 250th event next week 29th June! We will update our news section soon with full details of the event, including pacer times.

Or do you have a particular time you want to aim for and possibly break? Be in touch. This day is for all of our participants to celebrate this fantastic milestone. Let’s make it happen!

Hagley parkrun # 246 – 1st June 2019

Well the first day of winter really arrived with a bang! It was wet, cold, wet, windy and wet today. 109 brave souls took on the elements and ran, walked or jogged the course. Dogs sensibly stayed home tucked up in bed.  Buggy storm covers were tested to the limit and they fared far better than our footwear.

Our remarkable team of 16 volunteers showed extreme resolve and ingenuity in creating the perfect funnel and finishing chute, taking cover while they could.  Golf umbrellas and wet weather gear saved some of our on course volunteers from inundation.

Thank you to the formidable team of:

Nicola Corinne HANDLEY • Brian TYRO • Richard MALLOCH • Yvette TUCKER • Alex SIMMONDS • Rachael SEXTON • Tom STEELE • David LLOYD • Vanessa GOPPERTH • Richard KNOTT • Rosie LANGLEY • Colin THOMS • Diana PHIPPS • Matt ROBINSON • Anna DOWLING • Jackie MCGEORGE

Our future roster is looking very bare for the coming weeks   https://www.parkrun.co.nz/hagley/futureroster/ please let us know if you like to fill any of the gaps hagleyhelpers@parkrun.com.

A warm welcome was extended to our visitors both who ran and those that volunteered.  Including Jared BYRNE from Lillydale Lake parkrun in Victoria who completed his 100th parkrun!  Also, the 2 runners, who despite the conditions, recorded a new PB both on their second visit to Hagley parkrun. Well done to everyone, especially those who chose today to join us for their first parkrun. What an introduction!

We have so much respect for everyone who took part today. Thank you all for joining us, the long range forecast promises no rain next week (fingers crossed).
