New Course for 22nd February Only

Due to Electric Avenue Music Festival taking place in Hagley Park this weekend there are some cycle way closures. This means our event will be taking place on a new route for one week only!

The start/finish line will be at the opposite end of Victoria Lake behind the Golf Clubhouse.  We will run an out and back course, mostly along our normal paths. We will have Marshals and markers out on the course to make sure you can find your way. Here's a map so you know what to expect.

Alternative Route

We have not been advised of any car park closures but remind everyone that there is also parking available at the Riccarton Ave entrance to the park.  You may want to allow a little extra time for any potential disruptions.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Hagley parkrun # 250 – 29th June 2019

At parkrun everyone loves to celebrate runners persistence and the achievement of reaching significant milestones. Today we celebrated 250 events at Hagley parkrun and what a day it was!

While the city centre recorded a temperature of -5 at 7am this morning the temperature had risen to a balmy -1 by 8 o’clock. 285 braved the frosty conditions and either ran, walked or jogged the course.

21 outstanding individuals volunteered. Of those a brave 14 were either marking the course or waiting at the finish area. Thank you for your amazing efforts and for withstanding the cold. Another 7 individuals paced the course, in what was our second ever pacer event. Thank you all for giving our participants this fantastic experience. It was wonderful to receive such positive feedback and to know that it contributed to so many individuals runs.

Today’s volunteers were:

Amelia HINTON, Barry WILLIAMSON, Bartosz MORAWIEC, Bruce WOODS, Claire HORNCASTLE, Colin CHIN, Colin THOMS, David SCOBIE, Heath TAYLOR, Jean WILLIAMSON, Jonathan GIBBONS, Maria AMOS, Micheal HANLON, Modecai NKHWAZI, Rachael SEXTON, Robyn DALY, Ross MACKAY, Sinead IRELAND, Stephanie RUMBLE, Yvette TUCKER

Thank you all for your contribution to this special event.

To add to the celebration everyone was greeted with cake and cookies. Thank you Original Foods for the kind and ever so yummy donation of chocolate cake it was a massive hit!

We welcomed a number of parkrun tourists today, including Julia and Paul Gordon from Lower Hutt who ensured that our event was not absent of a Green 250 Club T-shirt, or two. Another group visiting from the UK managed to cram in two PBs, a 50th milestone and make their 10am flight! Great going team! We also got to welcome back Greg Petersen, a recent Run Director of Hagley who is now Event Director at Foster parkrun.

Other important numbers today included:

  • 61 PBs including all three of our first finishes.
  • 33 people visited Hagley parkrun for the first time, 20 of those experienced their first ever parkrun.
  • 21 clubs were represented
  • 4 people recorded milestones. One 100, Two 50’s and a Junior 10! Congratulations Glenda, Charlotte, Greg and Stewart (also on your PB).

Today is also a great opportunity to extend an extra thank you to all our past, and present, Run and Event Directors. They all work extremely hard behind the scenes each week to make sure we can all turn up to run, walk, jog or volunteer. Thank you! Over the last 250 events so many people have contributed to Hagley parkrun, whether you’re a parkrunner or a volunteer you've made it happen and made it the fantastic community it is today. Congratulations to everyone at Hagley parkrun!!!

Pacers 29th June Hagley’s 250th

It’s been a few years since we last had a pacer event so to hopefully guide some of you lovely people to a PB we have decided to do one as part of 250th celebrations.

We are so grateful to those who have volunteered so far to pace this weekend. We have a few gaps so do let us know if you’re happy to volunteer for any other slot, we just need to know your barcode number and the time you are willing to pace for (hagleyhelpers@parkrun.com).  As a guide this should be at least 2 minutes more than you are capable of running a parkrun in. You will get a volunteer credit in addition to participating in your favourite Saturday morning pastime.

We will pacing the following times:

20.00 Ross Mackay

22.30 Johnny Gibbons

25.00 Richard Knott

27.30 Colin Chin

30.00 Stephanie Rumble

32.30

35.00 Yvette Tucker

If you’re out there running, walking or run/walking and you would really like some support to complete the run in a particular time let us know. We will do our best to find a volunteer to pace that time too.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday for the 2-5-0!

Hagley parkrun – Christmas 2018

Yes, you heard it right! We will be hosting a special parkrun Christmas run on Tuesday the 25/12/2018 at Hagley. What better way to start the Christmas festivities than with a sneaky 5 km around North Hagley park?

Start time is as per usual 8am.

Looking forward to seeing you all there to celebrate a bit of xmas cheer.

Brad Henderson

Hagley parkrun Event Director

Red Zone parkrun

This is a slightly differently focussed post from Hagley parkrun.

If you are keen to be involved in setting up a new parkrun, by being part of the core group of volunteers needed to get a new parkrun off the ground, please contact us at hagleyoffice@parkrun.com.

Now to the main point of the post: We have been approached by LINZ and "Life in vacant spaces" about the possibility of starting up a new parkrun in the redzone.

Currently there is a location in the redzone in Burwood, near Brooker Ave, where there is an existing license for events, however, other areas are possible if a better location is found.

We will need to find a location that has things such as a cafe nearby, no road crossings in a course of no more than 3 laps (in an area that is more interesting than just around a field). Car parking can apparently be sorted out by using one of the fields, and toilet facilities can be provided with portables (at least for a start).

Hopefully this has the interest of some of you in the east of the city. Please get in touch and lets get this moving!

Christmas Run 2017

Hi Hagley parkrunners,

We will be hosting a Christmas parkrun again this year. The start time will be one hour later than normal @9am.

Ho Ho Ho.

Christmas run

Ho Ho Ho everyone

We will be having parkruns on both Christmas eve (Saturday), and Christmas day this year - both at the usual time of 8am.

Feel free to dress up in a santa suit if you want - or just come along to burn off some of that Christmas pudding!

Birthday BBQ

Birthday BBQ! It's our 2nd birthday on the 1st of October (not this Saturday but the following). NZ home loans is kindly supplying their BBQ again so there will be a free brekky, cake, and spot prizes!
We are also having a theme - superheroes! So come on down all you hulks, batmen, supermen, and wonderwomen and let's make it a super 2nd birthday.

Pacers on the 9th of July

Hi everyone,

We are having an event with pacers on the 9th of July. We will have people who will run specific times of 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, and 35 mins.

This will be a great opportunity for you to push yourself and go for that new PB with the support of someone else!

We are also looking for extra volunteers to be pacers on that day. If you would like to have a go at pacing, please reply to hagleyhelpers@parkrun.com with your preferred pacing time.

As a guide you should not pace any faster than a minute or two from your PB. It is also recommended to have a running watch with GPS to help you keep a consistent pace, although this is not compulsory.
