Barry Curtis parkrun
Event number 404
31st July 2021
The Tuis were singing this morning for parkrun number 404. 145 people ran, jogged and walked the course. Our Run Director David went for a run before our briefing and said he heard a great crowd of spectators cheering him on as he ran along John Walker Promenade. Maybe he’s been watching too much of the Tokyo Olympics? He certainly put in a gold medal performance as Run Director – thank you David!
We had a total of 15 volunteers help us out today:
David DOWLING • Karen ROUT • Grant LINCOLN • Ray FREEMAN • Mita STAUB • Jim NEWBOULD • David EVEREST • Ronald LOBJOIT • Keegan KOKKE • Maria SHALLARD • Caitlin SHALLARD • Keira SHALLARD • Andrew SHALLARD • Gail FLEMING • Tania KOKKE
Thank you to all of you for giving up your time to make our event happen. If you would like to give volunteering a go, please put your name on the whiteboard on Saturday or send us an email. If you’re uncertain about volunteering, it is very easy, and full training will be given. Plus you get the chance to win a free coffee from Sequel Café. Congratulations to David and Ronald (or maybe Tania?!) who were the recipients this morning.
Thank you to Sequel for providing us with the vouchers. They do lovely coffees and food and are very welcoming to any parkrunners who visit after parkrun each Saturday. If you’ve never gone to one of the post-parkrun get-togethers, it’s a great way to get to know people a little better.
This morning we had 12 people do their first Barry Curtis parkrun, 6 of whom did their first ever parkrun. Congratulations, and we hope to see you again. The other 6 people were visiting from Dunedin, Palmerston North and Millwater – it was lovely to have you join us.
Congratulations to the 10 people who recorded new Personal Bests – a great effort in not the easiest of conditions.
Two milestones were celebrated today. Brian received a balloon for his 200th parkrun and Matt received one for his 50th. Well done to you both! Two of our Juniors, Gracie (100) and Thomas (50), received certificates from Grant for recently achieved milestones. Thank you Grant for your kindness to the Juniors.
