Run Report 1 May 2021

Barry Curtis parkrun
Event number 391
1st May 2021

It's the 1st of May already! Did you know that Barry Curtis parkrun has been going for nearly 8 years? A big thank you to Tom and Esther who got our parkrun going all those years ago. Thank you too to all those who have helped to keep it going, especially all our wonderful volunteers. Today we had 15 people helping us out:

David DOWLING • Karen CROSSAN • Richard BOWERS • Karen ROUT • Grant LINCOLN • Ray FREEMAN • Ronald LOBJOIT • Keegan KOKKE • Maria SHALLARD • Caitlin SHALLARD • Rebekah SHALLARD • Gurcharanjit Singh MALHI • Maninder MALHI • Isabel BUERSCHGENS • David BRYANT

We really appreciate your efforts. If you would like to give volunteering a go, please talk write your name down on the whiteboard on Saturday, or email us at  We can start you on an easy job and before you know it you'll be able to claim your lovely purple volunteer tee shirt. A recent survey showed that people who volunteer at parkrun feel an improved sense of happiness compared to those who just walk or run. True story!

Congratulations to Maninder and Gurcharanjit who got the Sequel coffee vouchers for their volunteering. Two 'special' vouchers were awarded today to Alfred and Frances who put in such a great effort to their almost matching running outfits. Thank you to Sequel for their support. If you've never been there for an after parkrun coffee, you're missing something special. It's a great time to get to know fellow parkrunners a little better too.

And while we're talking about support, thank you to The Athlete's Foot for their sponsorship of parkrun around New Zealand. They help to keep it free for everyone.

This week 147 people ran, jogged and walked the mainly dry course. It was encouraging to see so many first timers today - 16 in total. Of those, 10 completed their very first parkrun. We hope to see you all again soon. We also had visitors join us from Taupo and Millwater and we hope that you enjoyed your time with us today.

There were 19 personal bests today. Congratulations to you all.  Special congratulations to our one junior who got a PB, Benjamin. Someone else has been noticed in the PB stats over the last few weeks too. Owen did his first parkrun with us on the 27th of March and has been here every week since then. He has had a PB every week and he's knocked a massive 6 minutes off his first time. Keep up the good work Owen.

There were two milestones today. Chanpen completed her 100th parkrun and Vanessa completed her 150th. Congratulations to you both. Just quietly, a little birdy told us there might be something else to congratulate Vanessa about too, but you might have to talk to her about that.

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Barry Curtis parkrun Results Page.
