We were greeted by the Anderson Park mist this morning – the sight of it made me forget the chilly air and appreciate instead the seasonal beauty of our parkrun venue. Another 118 people joined me on the pathway and scuffed their way through the autumn leaves.
There are positive signs from other parts of the world who are still waiting for the return of their parkruns. England has a date (5 June for those who have the necessary landowners’ permission in place) and we hope that our friends in Scotland will have a date very soon. We are getting excited on your behalf!
Hans ROMBOUTS celebrated his 100th parkrun by sharing cake with everyone. Congratulations and thank you Hans.
Those who made it happen this week were: Roslyn MANN (Run Director), Trish CUMMINS, Chey DEARING, Peter EDMEAD, Steve HOULISTON, Megan LEAHY, Faye NORTHE, Eric PHIMISTER, Sarah RENWICK, John RHODES, David WAIN and Mana WHAREPOURI. When Faye put her name down last week to hand out finish tokens today, she didn’t know that she was going to have a ride in an ambulance and end up with her arm in plaster. However, being such a stalwart, she didn’t consider staying home as an option, so swapped roles instead. Well done Faye and all the other volunteers. Thanks also to Caleb ARROWSMITH who has taken responsibility for our Instagram account and is doing a grand job.
Six people did their first or first-time registered parkrun today. Welcome to: S J CAVELL, Jayden WILSON, Justine RESTIEAUX, Helen SHEA, Emma BARTON and Keith RODEL. Another nine have done parkruns elsewhere but were at Anderson for the first time, so welcome also to: Charlotte MEO, Irene DE JONG (Nelson), Tom KITCHIN (Flaxmere), Steve SUTHERLAND (Gisborne), Natalie TORRANCE (Gisborne), Andrew ROUT (Tauranga), Nick HYDE (Lower Hutt), Ian SIMS (Lower Hutt), Robyn KOCH (Auckland),
The front-running females were: Aniela APPERLEY (in a personal best time of 20.23), Nicole SATTLER (20.34) and Charlotte MEO (22.00). Among the first five males were two with no barcodes so the official first three were: Michael SINCLAIR (17.45), Alex DODDS (18.25) and Brendan PHEASANT (with a personal best of 18.48).
Other PB achievers were: Kyle BLYTH, Rachel MEEHAN, Jarrod POPPLESTONE, Sam MACDONALD, Kathrin SILLER, Belinda HOGAN, Celina FRY, Hannah POOLE, Joe WHARE (4 minutes faster than his last parkrun 2 years ago), James WAKEFIELD, Lauren BALLANTYNE, Olaf HIRCZY, Meg RODEL, Ebba BURTON, Jordan FONTAINE, Kim COULSON, Lisa SOMERVELL and Darrell MAYSON.
In light of the HB marathon, half-marathon and 10km events next Saturday, it is anticipated that our numbers will be significantly reduced. However, if such events are not your thing, come to parkrun! We have almost enough volunteers and there’s still coffee afterwards. Let’s pack the park with everyone who enjoys their regular gentle jog or social walk. Best of luck to those who are taking part in the big event. You’ve done the training so luck is all you need now.
You have two weeks to get your tutu ready for our 5th birthday celebration. Don’t forget to add 5 (in any form you like) to your outfit and practise your high-5 for the photographer.
See you all soon.
