EVENT #59 - 8 DECEMBER 2018
“Running every day is a kind of lifeline for me, so I’m not going to lay off or quit just because I’m busy. If I used being busy as an excuse not to run, I’d never run again. I have only a few reasons to keep on running, and a truckload of them to quit. All I can do is keep those few reasons nicely polished.”
What reasons do you keep nicely polished? What drives you to run, to Parkrun, specifically? For me, it’s showing my children (and myself) that I can do something hard. And sometimes getting up early on a Saturday, after a long week of getting up early, is the last thing I want to do. But I do it. And I’m not the only one, this week 145 people did it too. Was it easy for them? Have they been running long enough that their reasons for running have a permanent gleam, or do they have to keep polishing, like me?
That’s the joy of Parkrun, really. Is it a walk? A run? A jog? Of course. An attempt at a PB? As 35 people proved – yes! Is it being adventurous and trying something new? Must be, because there were 10 first timers. For some, it is simply a chance to get out of the house, see friendly, familiar faces, and get some fresh air all while getting some exercise. Simply put, it can be whatever you want it to be: a well polished habit, or one you are working on getting shinier, and shinier. The possibilities are practically endless.
Many thanks to our volunteers for the week: Becks ZENTVELD • Bob HARTNELL • David HARTLEY • John HAYHURST • Josh ZENTVELD • Julia DELCOMYN • Kate SOUTHERN • Micah SOUTHERN • Nik ZENTVELD • Ronelle HENN • Sharon NOYCE
And please remember next week is the Christmas party. This means an opportunity to dress up in festive holiday gear, and to donate to our local food pantry (must be non-perishable or non-food grocery item).
